Our careers have been shaped during several military operations which had a high degree of uncertainty, were highly audacious and required commitment. In these special operations we were tested as team members, as leaders and had the honour to learn from General-major Patrick Cammaert BD. This experience gained us a vast scale of insights on team dynamics.In these exceptional times, teams are tested in new ways and at the same time, you as a leader will face dilemma’s, issues and uncertainties you probably did not have to deal with before. What does that do to you? It will be interesting to observe how team members cope with pressure, uncertainty and decision making. What does it mean if there are no clear answers and still you are required to decide on certain actions under time pressure? Responsibility can weigh heavy. How do you get clarity and the confidence that is needed? Leaders need to shift their styles in order to swiftly react on the fast changing environment. According to General-major Cammaert your ability to listen and having awareness of your own filters in listening, will determine the impact you will have as a leader, especially in times of crises. Good leaders have empathy and show their emotions. He calls it female leadership. We agree!
